
London Colney Parish celebrated 250 years of Robert Burns at the Caledon Community Centre on Friday 30 January. The event started with Piper Mark Bisset addressing the Haggis followed by the Parish Council Chairman Malcolm MacMillan leading the Selkirk Grace before all the 95 revilers tucked into Cockaleekie Soup, Bashed Neeps and Champit Tatties wi Haggis followed by Scotch Trifle, Cheese, Biscuits and Coffee. The evening’s entertainment consisted of a short history of Robert Burns, readings of his poetry and a solo of ‘My Love is Like a Red Red Rose’ song by local St Albans Chamber Choir chorister Matthew Reid. The evening was rounded off with every one joining in the Gay Gordons, and then a disco till late. A good time was had by all.
This is the fourth community event that has been hosted at the Caledon Community Centre since the Parish Council took responsibility for it in September 2008.
